| | Sylvie Vartan - Irrésistiblement | ] |
Totally loving Sylvie Vartan, can't get this song out of my head. I also just found out that she's been married to Tony Scotti for like 30 years. I always wondered what happened to him after "Valley of the Dolls"
Enjoy this TV clip. There's another clip of this song, but sadly, I can't embed it. The other one is black and white and looks like an outtake from "Barbarella"

[Jul. 10th, 2010|09:56 pm] |
Walking down center street last night, I saw the car of my dreams. A Karmann Ghia convertible. Le Sigh. I always said, if ever I was to start driving, I'd want a Karmann Ghia. Since my driving would be more a hobby than a necessity, I don't need a practical car, just a fun car. Growing up, I used to love MGs. My childhood was during the last gasp of the MG, as they went out of production circa 1982. I still do love them, but KGs are simply gorgeous. So retro, so otherworldly. Also, being German, rather than British, they are less likely to be a royal pain in the ass. The engines were the same used in the VW beetle, and the electrical system while not perfect, a hell of a lot better than Morris Garages...
Anyway, I snapped this white cabriolet. I don't love the color, but it's a convertible, and simply stunning...

| Lesley Gore on Scopitone |
[Jul. 2nd, 2010|07:53 pm] |
In answer to ravenspb 's posting, here's a Scopitone from Lesley Gore. I have no idea why there are so many panty closeups. It's actually a little disturbing. Also, said "wonder boy" looks a little long in the tooth. This video probably could be dubbed with "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and be equally effective...

Wow, no idea what they're singing, but totally loving the Wonder Girl thing. A little disturbed that one of the perps is a flasher, however.
Enjoy

one of the best moments from the film! Jayne Mansfield and Frank Tashlin ripping a page directly out of the Tex Avery playbook!

| poor lonely bear |
[Jun. 18th, 2010|07:21 pm] |
Back when I was taking an adult ed photography course, I had my 35mm camera with me a lot. I found this poor abandoned bear sitting as photographed on a mail box on Arlington St, at the bus stop across the street from where I was working at the time.
Somehow, it reflected my mood last weekend. Not sure why....oh wait, of course. Now I remember, it was pride last weekend, and that always leaves me without any *lol*.

| Writer's Block: A rose by any other name |
[Jun. 8th, 2010|11:43 am] |
I'm ambivalent about it. Growing up, I didn't like it, because it was *too* unique. I didn't meet another person named Colin until I was well into my 20's. Also, in the US, I was never able to get anything mass produced with my name on it-no license plate for my bike, no personalized toothbrush, mug, or that happy birthday 45 rpm record. That made me rather sad. Then there were the jokes that I found annoying. I'm sure almost everyone had joke issues with their names, but I think mine lent to humor and puns a lot more than "John" or "Scott".
Now, as an adult, my biggest problem is it is far too often misspelled, or misheard. It's irritating. At restaurants, when they ask for my name, I often just give my last name.
Not sure what I'd want instead. I used to want to drop my first name, and just go with my middle, Michael.
